Share the Love

The month of February, and love is in the air. It’s a Valentine’s Day count-down. Ads show newly-in-love couples and always-there-for-you marrieds surprising their loves with gifts. Valentine’s Day is typically for lovers, and the day is filled with romance, love, and gifts. A nice holiday, but it leaves out a lot of people who don’t have a significant other. What about singletons or even families who want to include their children on Valentine’s Day?

The latter thought bloomed into my first lens (in 2007), which also earned a Lens of the Day. I’m proud of my work, but also because it’s something close to my heart: sharing with my family. If your Valentine’s Day includes the kids, check out ideas for dinner, decorating, gifts, kid flowers, crafts, and more.

  1. I know, don’t remind me :(

We have been waiting since the end of October for Debbie to get her visa, but still no response, so now we are past the cutoff point where even if she did get approval, there is not enough time to send the passport to London for stamping in time for her to come over for Valentines Day.

So now we have to resign ourselves to spending the time alone. I have Presidents Day off and she has the whole of that week off, but we have to spend it 4,500 miles apart…

So fed up with waiting, and then you see all the commercials about couples in love etc… frustrating…

  2. Jennifer, my lens The Best-Ever Chocolate Fondue Recipe contains a fantastic family friendly idea although at first you think of chocolate fondue as romantic. However, ours was with three teenagers and three adults and a carefully negotiated combo of rock and pop music. We had a blast and I would definitely recommend chocolate fondue for Valentine’s Day for anyone — except maybe Tony and Debbie. You two will have to postpone Valentine’s Day and make up for it later. Sorry that you continue to be stuck far apart.

  3. Oh, Tony, I feel for you. If you’re separated from your Valentine, it is definitely a hard holiday. I hope you and Debbie have an extraordinary reunion when she finally arrives.

  4. Thanks for the link, Brenda. I love fondue, and what a great idea for a family Valentine’s Day! I lensrolled it to my Family Valentine’s Day lens (and my Perfect Valentine’s Day gift lens).

I’m going to follow some of your ideas, so we can enjoy chocolate fondue for our family Valentine’s. Thanks!
