British vocal group The Stargazers attained their first UK Number One the week ending 10 April, 1953, staying there for one week. The song that took them to the top on this occasion was Broken Wings, originally recorded by American duo Art and Dotty Todd. This version also broke into the UK Top 20, as did another recording of the song by Dickie Valentine.
The Stargazers were one of the most popular vocal combos of the 1950s in the UK. They enjoyed a total of nine UK hit records over a span of three years between 1953 and 1956, while also being voted by readers of pop music magazine, NME, Britain’s favourite vocal group for five years running.
No video of The Stargazers version is available, so as a substitute here is Art and Dotty Todd.
