  • Do you write about Green topics? Looking for guest bloggers

    August 31st, 2010 by AJ

Do you write about “green” topics? Just recently I have been so busy with various projects that I could really do with some help to keep Going Green Ideas fresh and updated regularly.

Do you write Green articles on Hubpages, Associated Content, Qondio….anywhere? Do you have a Green blog? Green lenses on Squidoo?

I am looking for some writers who share a genuine interest for Going Green and Natural, either to submit occasional Guest posts or if you want to contribute on a regular basis, I can set you up as a Blog Author. Links to your content definitely allowed ;)

Just leave a note in the Guestbook, together with some links to your writing and I will be in touch.

    Mrs Meyers Cleaning Products

    August 24th, 2010 by AJ

My newest green Squidoo lens is all about a range of natural, organic and green friendly cleaning products: Mrs Meyers Clean Day. These products come highly recommended by my fellow lensmaster Clouda9, who originally published the lens and then asked me if I wanted to take it over.

    Correen says:

Mrs Meyers Products are green friendly cleaning and aromatherapy all wrapped up in one! It’s wonderful to have a clean, sweet smelling home without loading our environment with toxins to achieve it.

    Green Cupcakes

    July 22nd, 2010 by AJ

I finally joined the Cupcake Club on Squidoo, publishing my first ever cupcake lens: Green Cupcakes. Not only will you find a yummy green cupcake recipe, with the best ever frosting, but there’s ideas for green baking equipment too.

    Green Cupcakes

Yes, some of it is green in colour but all the equipment featured on the lens is eco friendly baking equipment and made from recycled materials or sustainable resources.

Why use eco friendly catering equipment?

One very good reason to use recyled materials for eco friendly baking is that over 100 millions tonnes of plastic is discarded each year. Much of this ends up in landfill, in the countryside and in the sea, making plastic one of the most environmentally damaging materials on the planet.

I did my usual keyword research on the lens and I outline the process on How to do keyword research: #8 in Google in 24 hours, where I explain how I narrowed the niche to make a cupcake lens that stands a great chance of ranking high in Google in what is a very competitive topic.

    Natural recipes: a new resource

    May 14th, 2010 by AJ

Over the past 18 months or so, I have done more to promote tips and products under the heading Going Green Ideas. It took awhile before I realised that this was developing into a niche topic for me on Squidoo and so I finally made a lensography: Going Green Ideas and I also created a “green” label on Squidoo to help me keep track of them. At the time of writing I have 14 published lenses in this category.

To further develop my commitment to Going Green, I started up this blog to promote my Going Green lenses and another blog (yes it’s called Going Green Ideas) on Crabbys Beach, which will build up into a resource for Natural Recipes for Natural Cleaning, Natural body care, Natural Skin care.

There’s also Green Gardening and links to various Going Green resources and websites.

Environmentally friendly Samsung 3D LED TV

    May 10th, 2010 by AJ

Samsung has released a new range of 3D TVs, including the Samsung UN55C8000 55-Inch 3D LED HDTV and I was very pleased to see that it qualifies for an energy star rating. This new eco friendly TV uses up to 50% less energy than earlier Samsung models.

In keeping with my niche: Going Green Ideas, I did some research about the Samsung 55 LED TV and found it to be the best selling 3D TV on Amazon.

Following on from the popularity of James Cameron’s 3D film Avatar, there’s certainly been a lot of interest in 3D TVs and the major electronics’ companies seem to be in a race to corner the market, not only for the TV sets, but also accessories such as the 3D glasses.

Sony announced in early 2010, that they have deleoped new technology that will simplify the process of filming in 3D. Currently, two cameras are required to shoot every frame from slightly different angles. However, Sony have unveiled a single lens 3D camera, which will be particularly useful for sporting events.

Continuing the green theme, I was very pleased to see some new themes released on Blogger and could not resist a new, fresh green theme for Always Juggling on blogger, where I discuss how my newest lens was put together in a post called Some background about my new lens about a Samsung 3D TV.

St Tiggywinkles – caring for hedgehogs

    May 6th, 2010 by AJ

What is St Tiggywinkles? Located in the English countryside, St Tiggywinkles is a wildlife hospital that leads the world in hedgehog care.

As Spring progresses we hope that we will start seeing a hedgehog or two in our garden. Being creatures of habit they will turn up at the same time, as the light fades in the evening.

    European Hedgehog

For many years, our garden has been on the route of several hedgehogs as they make their way from one place to another, but last year we never noticed any. They may have been there  because our dog will spot or sense the wildlife in our garden, often when we don’t. She will sit by our patio door and up go her ears when something is around.

Hedgehogs are on the decrease in the UK. Their only predators are foxes, but it is not the foxes that are having an impact on ther numbers. It is road traffic.

One place that is fighting a battle to keep our hedgehogs alive is St Tiggywinkles, which is the biggest wildlife hospital in the world. In my Squidoo lens about St Tig’s, as it is often referred to, I tell the story of the wildlife hospital and Les Stocker, the founder.

Not only are there some amazing photos on the lens, taken by Les Stocker and available as beautiful posters on AllPosters, but there’s also a few photos from me as we visited in 2009, on our way back from helping my parents choose a new puppy. I also tell the story of some of the wildlife casualties that I personally have taken to the hospital.

If you love wildlife then I think you may just love reading about what St Tiggywinkles does to help the wildlife in the UK.

    Why buy a canvas bag?

    May 3rd, 2010 by AJ

Why buy a canvas bag? One reusable canvas bag in its lifetime will eliminate the need for 100 plastic bags, that’s why!

Why are plastic bags bad for the environment?

You use a plastic bag for an average of 12 minutesm, but they take hundreds of years to decompose. They don’t biodegrade. Plastic bags photodegrade, which means that tiny granules are left behind in the environment. They enter the food chain by being consumed by animals.

Plastic bags are also responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of animals, on land and sea EVERY YEAR!

You can find out more at Buy a Canvas Bag, one of my Green lenses on Squidoo.

Why buy a Dyson Vacuum Cleaner?

    May 1st, 2010 by AJ

Why buy a Dyson Vacuum cleaner? Because it is environmentally friendly!

It’s interesting that as I have developed the topic Going Green Ideas on Squidoo, how much I already know and how much our home is already “environmentally friendly”.

To give an example. I was researching for an environmentally friendly vacuum cleaner and discovered that the brand that ranked highest is the Dyson.

Currently the Dyson DC25 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum Cleaner is rated as the most environmentally friendly and sustainable vacuum cleaner, according to the Green Guide for everday living.

I don’t have a DC24, I actually have the DC01, which is the first cyclone Vacuum Cleaner that Dyson put on the market. That was 13 years ago – which goes to prove how sustainable the Dysons are!

Going Green on Zazzle as well as Squidoo

    December 4th, 2009 by AJ

It is taking awhile to bring all my “Going Green Ideas” together in a series of blogs, articles and lenses but I am finally making progress. This week I have been working on my new Zazzle store where I am continuing to develop my theme of Going Green Ideas.

    So far I have:

The next item on my “To Do list” is to design an image that hopefully people will use to link to the posts on here any lenses or blogs that I feature and then I need to make more Green lenses. And I suppose I ought to make a Zazzle lens as well.

Looking for quality going green lenses on Squidoo

    November 19th, 2009 by AJ

In October I was reappointed as a Squidoo Angel and the categories I watch over, were changed. I was really pleased to be given the Green Living category, as my family and I are very environmentally aware. Even my Lovely Hubby works as an Environmental Consultant advising on the environmental impact of building and buildings.

However, I must admit that my pleasure at being one of the “Green Angels” has been tinged with disappointment. The Green Living Top 100 list is peppered with poor quality and spammy lenses, just like the rest of the categories on Squidoo.

The Green Living category is full of lenses linked to e-books about solar energy panels and building your own windmill. Some of the Lenses are very good but there’s others where it is obvious that the Lensmasters have simply researched “hot topics” and “hot keywords” or they have been given them on the lists that get mailed out as freebies when you sign up to certain online marketers’ email lists. They have jumped on the eco-friendly bandwagon. Their lenses have nothing to do with promoting going green ideas but everything to do with an aspect of online marketing that I loathe.

These lenses exist for the sole purpose of making sales – saving the planet is of secondary importance and the information on them is sparse and poor. Sales modules are OK, but in my view only if the lens still provides value if the sales modules are removed.

So, I am on a quest. I am looking for those environmentally friendly lenses that are quality, full of great information and links to even more great information about how to go green. They are lenses that don’t make it into the Top 100 in Green Living because other Lensmasters are better at SEO and getting traffic, not necessarily because they have made a good lens.

I am looking for environmentally aware lenses like these:

Simple Steps to prevent water pollution

    Recycling sweaters into new accessories

Fight toxic mold by going green

Soapnuts – the natural and environmentally friendly cleaner

Just leave the links in the comments box here. Not only will I visit the lenses but they may then be included in Featured Lenses Modules on future Going Green lenses.
