Eurovision 2012: Kurt Calleja to Sing For Malta

Malta Eurovision 2012: Kurt Calleja to Sing For Malta

After four hours, yes four hours, Malta finally chose its song for the Eurovision Song Contest. It came down to a close run thing between the songs This is the Night and Pure, with the former sung by Kurt Calleja winning out in the end by a matter of a few points.

Different to its usual earnest ballads, This is the Night is an uptempo number that wouldn’t be out of place at a hotel disco anywhere across the Mediterranean. I’ve a feeling it will appeal to Euro Song devotees and garner enough points to make the Final. Not the winner though.

Here it is. What do you think?

The finalists to determine the song to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan this coming May will be performing live in Ta’ Qali on February 4th.

This Saturday night, Maltese Television will be  producing a live broadcast of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and a Red Carpet pre-show will be shown just before the final begins.

16 finalists will present their songs, cut down from a lineup of 24 performed at the semi-final on Friday night.

The voting system will be based on public tele-voting and a professional jury made up of Maltese and foreign guests familiar with the Eurovision Song Contest.

During the final, the French Eurovision Song Contest representative Anggun will also perform, as well as the winners of the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest Ell and Nikki, who will no doubt be singing last year’s victorious song, .

Glen Vella, last year’s Maltese representative, will also take the stage to launch his new single.
