On April 8, 2009, a new front door to the Kingdom of Squid was presented to unsuspecting visitors. The big slider featuring Giant Squids on a rotating random basis has been dropped. Instead, a number of boxes showcase the top 5 lenses of the individual categories.
For the first time, a smaller slider underneath the categories presents some of the different cobrands of Squidoo, like the Monkeybrain Debate, Squid Who, and the Ever project.
As is to be expected, changes of this magnitude are not without controversy. In a lively discussion over at the SquidU forums, lensmasters are debating their like and dislike of the new layout. Some Giant Squids mourn the loss of prime exposure, but generally the changes are well received.
As Squidoo’s Editor in Chief Megan Casey concedes, you’ll never please all the lensmasters all the time. On the official SquidBlog, she reminds us that each and every lens is a homepage, and a chance to make a good first impression. Another reason to ensure that our lenses are the best they can be.
