December is a busy time of year, and that includes our Squidoo accounts. For those of us who are making a living online, with Squidoo as part of that income, watching for trends that will happen on our dashboard is a full time occupation.
Depending on what your lenses are written about, and how well you plan, your Squidoo dashboard can be volatile in December with unexpected results. Here are some things that you can expect in December:
Seasonal Christmas Lenses are Up
Well, duh, you might think, but many people are not prepared for what happens to their non-Christmas lenses in December. Because there are so many Christmas articles written, as well as sales articles aimed at the Christmas season, unless non-Christmas related lenses are especially strong, and receive a sizeable amount of regular traffic, those lenses will move down on your dashboard (or at least in lensrank). The way to compensate for this is to have seasonal Christmas lenses that move up, or strengthen the lenses that you do have to keep them relatively stable.
Overall Traffic is Up
This is a good time to watch what people buy, where they go, and what they click on. Although Christmas traffic is not quite normal, it will still give you an idea of what is catching people’s eyes as they peruse your writing.
What is Popular the Rest of the Year May End Up on the Bottom of Your Dashboard
Don’t be surprised to see your most popular lens end up in the dumpster this time of year. Chances are it will rise back up in January or February, but with so much competition, your dashboard rankings will move all over the place in December.
You May Benefit From Someone’s Shopping Spree
One of the most fun things to see on your dashboard is someone’s shopping spree. Because we get royalties for anything someone buys if they start from our referral link, a person may go from Squidoo to Amazon, and then buy 1 related item and 20 non-related item just because they are there.
There is no question that Christmas has become commercial in many ways that can benefit us during the holiday shopping season, but don’t forget that there are many other seasonal topics that have nothing to do with Christmas or shopping this time of year.
