Your Actions Are Your Words
April 23, 2009 in Editorial, Squidoo Blogs by lakeerieartists
I have been working hard on transferring my brick and mortar store from one location to another this week, so I haven’t been online as much as usual. You can follow the transition in my chronicle, Lake Erie Artists Gallery | Transformation to a Fresh New Look at Shaker Square. But something told me this morning to check Seth Godin’s blog before I got started, and I am glad I did.
Seth has a unique ability to cut through the layers of hype on just about any topic, and go straight for the meat. As I am the kind of person that has no patience for red tape or political positioning of any kind, this kind of thinking appeals to me.
We, all of us humans I mean, are totally imperfect people. We make mistakes, we fail, we make promises that we cannot keep, we are fundamentally flawed. But with all of this, we still manage to grow, prosper, and create amazing works that transcend the creator time and time again.
Are we our best selves every minute of every day? No, we get tired, we get cranky, we are human after all. But that is what makes those moments of transcendence into the best us so much more illuminating each time we achieve it. Our reputations, online or in person, is what our businesses, and our personal lives are built on. Over time, each action that we take, and each decision made adds to the cumulative effect of who we are in other people’s eye.
I encourage to you read through Seth’s words today, What you say, what you do and who you are, and take just a few quiet moments to reflect on how other people see you.
What are your actions saying about you?

Absolute truth. There’s no better to put it.
Thanks!

Everything in life is ’selling’ and our salespersonship is directly related to the way we live our lives. We can’t hide online. The scum might still flood the ocean – but it’s sinking, sinking, sinking… Great post, Paula! (And thanks, Seth, of course.)
Paula, you couldn’t have expressed it any better. This touched my heart. I found myself nodding and talking out loud to the screen.
“Over time, each action that we take, and each decision made adds to the cumulative effect of who we are in other people’s eye.”
Yes. You are so right. And if our decisions are selfish, we end up with a nasty layer of tarnish, when we were really meant to shine.
