Understanding Keyword Research is Essential to Making a Real Income Online

One of the people that I respect the most online, and have learned quite a bit from is not a Squidoo lensmaster.  His name is Sunforged, and I met him on Hubpages, although he is involved in many other websites.

I wanted to refer to sunforged in this post, because I recently read a hub by him that is very beneficial to anyone who is still struggling with the understanding of how to do keyword research in order to make money online.  The article, Keyword tips – How to pick keywords that make money, is broken down into a few sections, but the one that I think is the most important is where sunforged walks you through the process of finding keywords that make money, and how to determine how much money the words make.

On Squidoo, we do not make money directly from Adsense.  So in one sense, we can ignore which keywords are higher paying.  On our own websites or blogs where we do make money directly from Adsense, understanding how the keywords pay out for Adsense is crucial.  However, the part of the keyword research that takes note of how to determine if people are searching for this particular keyword is still essential if you want to draw traffic to your lens, which in turn will lead to making money for you.  On Squidoo, you will make money directly from the popularity of your lens, the clickouts on your lens, and the purchases from your lens.  These aspects are all controlled partially by which keywords you chose, so understanding keyword research is very important.

As a general rule of thumb, on Squidoo if your lens makes money for Squidoo, it will also make money for you.  And once you become an expert at keyword research, you will also be able to use this process to make money directly from Adsense on your own websites and blogs.

sunforged bases his hub around the following questions:

“There are 3 general concepts to consider in keyword selection; these keyword tips should save you time and effort.

  1. What is the search history and related profit potential of my keyword ?
  2. What is the competition for this keyword and related search queries?
  3. Is the niche topic and the human beings who search within it a ‘Buying” crowd?”

His entire hub explains how to answer these questions.  I urge you to read and bookmark Keyword tips – How to pick keywords that make money, if you want to make a real income on Squidoo and anywhere else online.

  1. I am still finding my way in the world of keywords and this is another good page to read.

  2. Just about any page by Sunforged is an excellent page to read. :)

  3. I just join squidoo for almost 2 month. finding the right keyword seems very stressful for me. If you check my first lens, you will notice I didn’t do any keyword research. I’m so glad, I found this page.
