The Community is the Thing

I have said it before, and I am saying it again. The Squidoo community is what makes Squidoo special.

One of the things about the internet is that it can be dehumanizing. We think more about the numbers, and we interact with people we don’t know, and may never meet. It is not the same as a traditional face to face. Squidoo does a marvelous job making the site more human. And the Squidoo community interacts in interesting and wonderful ways.
In her blog post, Lensmasters Make Me Smile, Susan52 points this out succinctly. She says, “I really love lensmasters on Squidoo. I love them for a lot of reasons, but today I love them for the very kind comments they leave on my lenses.”
I agree. Not just the kind comments on lenses, but the mentoring, the encouragement to new Squids, the real discussions in the forum, and the interaction all over the net on every site you can find a lensmaster. I have found acquaintances, and real friends through the Squidoo site, and where else can you find people willing to collaborate, and volunteer their time so readily to keep the community flourishing.
Although Squidoo is a business, it feels more like a family. I have to commend the Squidoo leaders, both staff and volunteers on the continual evolving environment they are creating. Because the internet is only going to get bigger and more important in the business world, and the private world, and we are on the cutting edge.

Very good point, Paula. It’s easy to get caught up in the race for online fame and fortune. But what will succeed in the end is a well-thought-out concept of personal relationships and interactions. The vision of this is the true genius of our founding members, Seth and Megan.
You said it well, Paula. Thanks for the blog post mention. Don’t you just love the smile on that dog’s face?!
