When Keem and Anne asked me to be the editor for Featured Lensmasters, I was most honored to accept and began right away to think about the first feature! It occurred to me that the first feature should be a lensmaster who not only helps other lensmasters — as all good Squids do — but one who helps you at the most basic level of the craft. Grammar, punctuation, spelling, and proofreading are the foundation of any lens. A lens’ foundation must be strong enough to support any other thing you add to it. Yes, there are some hugely compelling and popular lenses out there glaring with misspellings, typos, and poor grammar. They are the exceptions! Surely the writers will eventually find their way to lensmasters like KimGiancaterino! Woot! …In fact, with just a few lensmasters excluded, it wouldn’t hurt any of us to review our own “foundational skills.” Visit Kim; stop first at her Write Gooder With Help From William Safire’s Fumblerules.
