I rarely look at the lenses that are below 100, 000 lensrank on my dashboard. After all, I have 700 lenses, and I have to allocate the majority of my time on what is making me money. And the truth is that only a small percentage of my lenses make me a high percentage of the money I make from Squidoo. However, there are two exceptions to the rule that I have stated above:
- Seasonal lenses
- Lenses that suddenly start to make sales.
Seasonal lenses tend to move up and down my dashboard. When you are in their season, they generally stay in Tier 2 or Tier 1, but once their season is over, they dive down into the murky depths of the bottom of my dashboard. For these type of lenses, I typically do not pay attention to them until a month or two before their season, then I will take the time to update and check all of the links to make sure that they are still valid before the season is upon us. In the first half of a calendar year, there are not nearly as many seasonal lenses that move up my dashboard. For some reason, St. Patrick’s Day is my one big seasonal success in the first six months. However, the second half of the year has a lot of seasonal movement. After all, back to school, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas all fall into that part of the year. These are not all of the seasonal lens categories that I have, but the biggest. Some of my lens topics are divided into months, sports seasons, and many other seasonal types.
The second group of lenses that I mention above, the ones that suddenly start to make sales, are much more interesting to me. These are pulling themselves out of the depths of my dashboard on their own, and I need to figure out how I can repeat their success or enhance it. One such lens is Authentic Rare and Retired Pandora, Chamilia, and Trollbeads, a lens that is directed at a very specific target, people who collect obsolete beads from Pandora, Chamilia, and Trollbeads. What is interesting to me about this particular lens, is that in the last few days, I have had 14 sales from it. My job is to now figure out why, who, and if I can increase this pattern.
This lens is designed to send people to eBay. There are almost no links that do not pay in some way, although the best bet for me is if they go directly to eBay via one of the module links. This is not a high traffic lens. In the last three months, I have only had 130 visits, however, as we all know it is the quality of the traffic that is the most important. My click through rate is 32%. The lens is 8 months old, and gets about the same traffic week after week. Since this lens was born, it has earned me $8.87. It looks like the money trend is going up, and should see a big leap forward now. It will be interesting to see how long this lasts, and if I can continue it forward.
