Thinking Of Buying A Lens?

February 7, 2012 By Bev Owens 2 Comments

Are you thinking of buying a lens from a Squidoo lensmaster? Are you struggling with yourself with the question of “should I” or “shouldn’t I”? Is there anything wrong with buying a lens instead of writing it yourself?

No, I don’t think there is anything wrong with buying a lens from a reputable lensmaster who is offering the service of writing it for you. We all get caught by the “time bandit” sometimes whether it is working a full time job, raising children, or the fact that we have more ideas for lenses than there is time to write on our own. Saving ourselves some time is one of the best reasons to consider buying a lens or two.

I will admit that for a while I did not see the advantage of buying a lens from someone else and I did struggle with the idea of whether I should or should not buy one. As more lensmasters began to offer the service and I thought about my own goals and desire to create more in order to generate more income, it became obvious that there can be a real advantage to getting some help from someone who enjoys creating and selling lenses.

In the next few weeks, I plan to do a short series of posts about buying lenses. There are some things to consider as you shop for a lens to purchase. If we approach the idea with the right mindset, it can be a win/win for both parties…the lensmaster selling the lens and you the purchaser.

Reasons to buy a lens:

  • You want to get a new niche started
  • You want to add to an existing niche
  • Your time is limited for creation

The first thing I will mention is that you want to work with a lensmaster who has posted that they offer the service. That may sound a little silly but I think it needs to be said. I do not think it is cool to contact a lensmaster who is not advertising that they have lenses for sale and offer to buy some of their lenses from them. It just happened to me this week and it irked me to no end. For the record, I am not writing this series because I want to sell lenses. I want to write this series on buying lenses to help people make wise choices when they do buy a lens or two.

Until next week….

I am really keen to buy lenses that are in the top 2000 lensrank or thereabouts. Do you have a recommendation of where I can connect with quality sellers?

If you are considering making an offer for any lens in the Top 2000 on Squidoo, I hope you have a wallet full of $$s :) Each of those lenses earns the owner at least $50 a month in payments from Squidoo, plus related sales either through the Squidoo Amazon and eBay modules and/or through the owners direct affilaite links.

Many of these lenses will be worth thousands of dollars rather than hundreds.

However, there are Lens creators who will make lenses for you. All you have to do is a search either on Google or on Squidoo itself. Their prices depend on exactly how much work is required before the lens is transferred to the buyer. However, it could be some time before you see any return on your investment.

    I hope this helps.
