Since tomorrow is the beginning of the Christmas shopping season, because Halloween is over, I thought that I would review some of the things that Squidoo lensmasters can expect to see happen to their accounts during the next two months.
Many lensmasters work hard all year in anticipation of this time of year, when people start to shop in earnest for Christmas. In the United States, Christmas has become highly commercialized with many retail companies earning 1/3 to 1/2 of their revenues for the year during this time. This makes November and December highly volatile months when it comes to sales and lensrank.
For those people who have lenses that stay relatively in the same lensrank all year round, Christmas will most likely knock those out of place, because there are so many more lenses competing for the space your lens has been residing in all year. On the other hand, many of you will see seasonal lenses that sit at the bottom of your dashboard, jump to the top for a while. This is normal, and in most cases, by January or February, will reset to about where it was before.
However, the biggest change to look for is the advantage to make more money due to sales in November and December. The pure fact is, that if people are going to spend money, they will do it for Christmas.
Now is the time of year, if you haven’t already done so, to tweak your sales lenses, to watch for new keywords to add to them, and to strengthen their standing. Without spamming your friends and relatives, use this time to review the links on your lenses. Broken links will not bring sales. And check for new products to add to your lenses. Companies frequently introduce new products at this time of year.
November and December is also a great time to think about what people will be buying after Christmas is over. Many people receive money for Christmas or wait for after Christmas sales. Life does not stop on December 25, but goes right on into the next year. Figure out what people will be searching for in January and February.
This year, the elections will affect how our lensrank and sales go to some extent. I expect that for the next week or so, many people will be focused on the election, with election commercials in the U.S., especially here in Ohio, completely consuming the airwaves. However, as soon as the election is over, the Christmas commercials will take over, and we will be full swing into the holiday season.
What will your strategy be for November and December?

I’m hoping for a strong holiday season at Squidoo this year. I did well last December, my first ‘real’ Christmas season on Squidoo and expect to have more success this year.
Evaluating what folks will but with their Christmas money is an excellent tip. I shall be doing exactly that this year.
Thanks. Lori
This will be my first christmas on squidoo as well and I was wondering when is the best time to make holiday lenses, is it too late to make christmas and thanksgiving lenses? I have a few but not very many. I guess if I do make some they will be seasoned for next year.
Hi – good question
Thanksgiving lenses may be a bit late to make a huge impact for this year, it would depend on how brilliant to keywords are, but of course if you do them now, they will gain authority for next year
I think you do have time to get those Christmas pages written and out there – but again, with so much competition it would depend on finding a good niche and very good keywords. And again, if they dont take off this year, they will be well aged for next year. I actually have a Christmas lens I wrote 3 years ago. I forgot about it last year, updated it about 4 weeks ago and last week it made its forst ever sale. A Man’s watch, with a direct Amazon link, so finally the lens is in profit!
I tell this story because it just goes to show how a page can do nothing for years and then suddenly come to life.
It is never too late to make a lens for the holidays. You may make money this year, and yes, they will still be there next year to do more. Great question!
Our little town had a project this year where several of the local churches went in together to purchase an Outdoor Nativity Scene to go on some prime property that belongs to one of the churches and is seen by everyone coming into our little town. I researched several sets and found one Made In The USA that we really liked. We decided that while we were at it, we might as well try to make some money for our Veterans Park through Friends of the Park. After contacting the company to let them know my plans, I created a lens about their products and the story of the one we ordered. The lens is now in top tier and selling these wonderful Outdoor Nativity Sets. It looks like we may make around $300 for the park with this lens. We are so pleased! I know it won’t last but we sure are enjoying it now.
That is really cool, Nancy.
You have done so much for your town.
