One of the most difficult things to do when you are a Squidoo lensmaster is to realize that you can make way more money through Squidoo by ignoring the lensrank payouts, and focusing on the money you can make on affiliate sales through Squidoo sales modules and/or affiliate links from 3rd party vendors.
While I understand that there are a few lensmasters who do make significant money from lensrank payout by keeping more than 10 lenses in the top tier, the truth is that most lensmasters do not. If you consider how much money you are making per hour spent on Squidoo, it makes sense to worry less about how much you make from lensrank, and more about how to increase the average amount that you make from each lens.
One of the things that you will find true, is that you won’t earn the same amount from each lens, however, the more lenses you make, the more of them will become successful, either seasonally or all year. And as you figure out what it takes for you to become successful in earning money from a lens, you will continue to make more lenses that earn, and you will expect them to earn.
Some lenses take time to mature, and others take tweaking. Depending on the keywords that you are trying to rank for in search engines, some lenses will need more backlinks than others to rise in the ranks.
To give you an example, my current top lens is The Nile River – History and Facts. This lens is actually one that I purchased originally from another lensmaster quite a while ago, and was not nearly as successful at the beginning. However, over quite a bit of time, I have tweaked the lens, adding keywords, until I found the right ones to get the lens to start ranking on search engines. However, this is not my top earning lens, actually it is not even close. My top earning lenses are almost never in the top tier. And when I say top earning, I am including what lenses earn from lensrank payouts. If you consider that a lens can only earn about $30.00 per month in the top tier from lensrank payouts (it differs from month to month), then you realize that it makes much more sense to push your lenses higher in search engines, find a way for that lens to earn consistently throughout the month, then let the lensrank take care of itself.
Lensrank payouts are nice, but not where the real money is.
The other fact to remember is that the competition for lensrank payouts is fierce, especially in the top tier of only approximately 2000 lenses. It is hard to get there and even harder to stay there.
