Squidoo Step by Step

As I am not a member of Tenfinity, the group of lensmasters that has brought us the Squidoo Step by Step guide, I decided that I can feel free to brag about it.

Squidoo Step by Step is the absolutely best and crystal clear Squidoo guidebook that I have seen since I started on Squidoo in June of 2008, almost 2 years ago.  I read through the book just yesterday, (no one says that I am the first to get to anything), and realized that I already know just about everything in the guide.  What that says to me is that I have learned quite a bit in my not quite 2 years on Squidoo.

However, much of what I have learned was learned through trial and error, learning and unlearning, and wasting a lot of time boiling instructions from several sources down to the bare bones.  Had I had this Squidoo Step by Step guidebook in my hands at the beginning, I would have reached where I am today much faster.  Squidoo Step by Step is an excellent resource for all lensmasters to understand the basics and the intermediary lessons that Squidoo has to teach us.

If you want to see if you are moving in the right direction, especially if Squidoo is your initiation to the internet web 2.0 or web 3.0, I highly suggest that you download a copy.  What is the price, you ask?  $29.95? $5.95?  Nope, the Squidoo Step by Step guide is completely free.  How about that!

Now the group that brought us the Squidoo Step by Step guide has also started a wonderful Ning called Professional Squids.  The idea behind Professional Squids is to help people understand the Squidoo Step by Step guide, and go beyond the guide.  And the group is, yep you guessed it, totally professional in nature.  And guess how much this Ning costs to join and continue the excellent learning that started in Squidoo Step by Step?!  Free again.  Two amazing free resources that will vastly improve your efficiency and proficiency on Squidoo.  What are you waiting for?

Metaphysical Mystic Rocket Mama Off Her Rocker?

May 21, 2009 in Featured, Lenses We Love by Chef Keem

A cheeky title is always nice, huh? But don’t be mistaken – this lens is powerful!

mystic-bambi

Bambi Watson aka Mystic Mama explains in simple, scientific terms what should be at the forefront of our all-too-rare deeper thinking:

Where do we come from? What the heck are we doing here? What is God? (W00t – big one!)

Modest Bambi claims these are her opinions only – no sermon or guru talk. I say these are powerful insights from a fellow human being who has ‘walked the walk’.

We might not be ready for such higher, spiritual teachings. But neither were most folks listening to the carpenter from Nazareth. And look what happened…

Let’s be open-minded about prophets in their own (Squidoo) country – it might really change our lives.

Metaphysial Mystic Mama says: “I admit it – I’m just a big science geek!”

Improv Everywhere – We Cause Scenes

May 12, 2009 in Lenses We Love by Chef Keem

This is one of the most entertaining lenses I’ve seen in a long time!

A group of 80 “agents” dresses up as Best Buy employees and then stands around in the store for a while…

207 troupe members “freeze” for a few minutes inside New York’s Grand Central Station…

20 people give a hero’s welcome to an unsuspecting stranger at the airport…

16 “agents” stage a musical at the food court of a Los Angeles mall…

Lensmaster ekurit created this portrait lens of Improv Everywhere. Go check it out and have yourselves a few really good chuckles…

Journey of the Traveling Squid

March 24, 2009 in Breaking News, Editorial, Lenses We Love by Anne Corci

JaguarJulie

Squidoo Lensmaster Extraordinaire JaguarJulie has just launched a very interesting project in an attempt to unite Giant Squid Lensmasters around the globe: The Journal of the Traveling Squid!

What IS the Journal of the Traveling Squid?

The JTS project consists of a Journal and a Giant Squid T-shirt which will be sent from one Squidoo lensmaster to the next. As each lensmaster receives the forwarded package containing the journal and shirt, they will make a personal entry to the journal and also sign the shirt with their lensmaster name, location and date.

The lensmaster is then requested to take a photograph of their journal entry and another picture of themselves with the t-shirt and journal next to a landmark of their location.

As this project also aims to support our favorite charitable causes, the recipients are encouraged (although not required) to make a donation to a charity of their choice.

Once the Journal has been filled and successfully traveled around the world it is returned to JaguarJulie who will then aution it off to benefit charity.

How can you participate?

For more information about this project, and to add your name to the interest list, please the Squidoo Lens www.squidoo.com/the-journal-of-the-traveling-squid!

Homesick for the Oktoberfest

March 14, 2009 in Featured, Lenses We Love by Chef Keem

A short while after I had signed up on Squidoo I found this lens by a certain lensmaster named Squidster:

Oktoberfest in Munich

It made me homesick for my first home town (today it’s Austin, Texas) and the “hunting grounds” of my youth.

Funny thing happened over the course of the next 6 months, or so. I thought Squidster is a guy! Don’t know why – just an assumption, I guess. Check on Squidster’s picture in the “Imprint” of SquidLog, and you’ll see just how wrong I was.  :)

I think it was right before we both became Squid Angels that I realized Squidster’s gender. I felt so embarrassed, for some reason…

Main thing is, this was the first truly great lens I’ve discovered on our site. Anne shows us in many examples what you can do with modules and HTML/CSS tricks (and highly-entertaining content) to create a lens that stands out way above the crowd.

I just looked at this fun page again for more inspiration, and I think you could benefit from a visit as well.
